By mid-July I had unpacked the majority of the house and was really starting to get the itch, and not from the poison oak, to get out and garden. The previous owners attempted gardening at the front of the house so I figured that’s where I’d begin.
It took 2 hours to dig all the weeds out of that bed! Only one flower, a hydrangea, and a small lilac in the whole lot. After the garden was emptied that’s when we really noticed the rail ties were quite crooked…
Dan to the rescue!

After 50+ wheel barrel loads of dirt and 2 bales of peat moss I was ready to plant. Off to my Moms I went…not to steal from her gardens, that’s where I had a ‘crop’ style garden of flowers growing…smart, right? I had started my garden there 2 years before knowing that someday we would have a house

I had so many plants left over; my mom suggested we build another garden somewhere else…
The hottest day of the year! Not sure what we were thinking really, digging in gravel no less, but one case of water and 4 hours later a garden had emerged. This one in particular I am very fond of as I measured, cut and nailed all the rail ties myself!
A few days later, when it wasn’t quite as hot, in went the dirt and peat moss. Viola!

And that concludes my 2012 gardening adventures. I can’t wait for 2013 gardening season! Big things coming this year…stay tuned.
