Hello and Happy 2014!
I’m not usually one to make resolutions for the new year, generally because I can’t stick with them, oops, but I think it’s time to break with tradition. Plus if I put it out there, for the world to see, then maybe just maybe it will be easier to follow through with!?

So here it is, my resolution for 2014: Open myself to you…to everyone really. Crack this introverted shell.
Silly I know, but why have a blog if not to share your life/thoughts/feelings/experiences? The theme of my blog will still remain the same, I am a gardener through and through, I’ll just be adding a little more ‘me’ to the mix. I feel knowing a little bit more about the person you’re reading about makes it easier to envision the stories you are reading. Let’s do this!
Now where to begin?
Well, I’m an only child which in no sense of the word means I’m spoiled – that is far from the truth!
Until this past summer I had never peeled garlic before.
I grew up in the country where our little family of 3 grew quickly to include two much larger families…we had no choice they sucked us in! That gave me 3 siblings, 2 more sets of Grandparents, another Mom and a whole lot of Aunts and Uncles. Did I mentions they were farmers?
I drive a vw, Normand, which I love love love.
I wear my heart on my sleeve.
I took Advertising in College but after graduation was unwilling to move to the city and unable to find a job around here.
I hate eating vegetables with a passion! But love growing them?
I’m a movie junkie.
I’ve been a strawberry picker, waitress, baker, daycare provider, cashier, factory worker, inn keeper and also worked at a craft store all since finishing highschool in 1999.
I played the piano when I was younger.
I love the Beatles.
I am now an income tax preparer, and have been since 2010, which I really love.
I am crafty/artistic.
I hate doing laundry.
In 2005 I was married which taught me two things: 1. follow your heart and not others expectations and 2. don’t get married until you are at least 30!
I am addicted to Pinterest!
I collect children’s books.
In September Dan & I married. My true love, my high school sweets.
I only like to read books that involve a characters demise in the first few chapters (weird, I know)
I love pickling things!
No wee ones at this time…but we do have 5 cats. Ya I said it, 5. Craziness!
I love yoga.
I suffered from depression. And I only share that with you because I don’t feel that it is talked about enough – even though it is quite common. I have good days and bad days. It has taught me a lot about myself…and I know there is still so much more to learn. Gardening is a huge help! Blogging helps too. But if you don’t hear from me for a while that may just be why.
Don’t know much about depression? This will explain, please watch:

And that’s the double-truth, Ruth.
That’s me in a nutshell, welcome to my world. With all that said, good luck to you and your resolutions for the coming year. Here’s to making them last the whole year through.
And stay tuned we’ve got some big plans for the property this year. Bigger vegetable garden, vegetable stand, berry bushes, growing a meadow, pickling and maybe, just maybe, chickens (but I don’t want to push my luck).
2014 – Simplify. Be inspired. Be original. Work hard. – Enjoy.

Happy New Year!

I look forward to reading more about your goals. You are right to put them here makes them more easily seen everyday:-) I felt that was one of the best videos on depression, using the dog. My middle daughter did suffer from that during her early teens. I am also married to a school psychologist, so our family is well aware of how depression does put a damper on your life. But I like the end of the video where he says, ” taught him a few tricks”…:-) And I ,too wear my heart on my sleeve….but I would not change that since it makes me a compassionate person:-) and I HATE laundry too!

Thanks a bunch Robbie! :) It has been and interesting road but it has made me who I am and I’m cool with that – and with the help of friends and family it gets easier everyday. If I could pay to have my laundry done I totally would! :)

I think its going to be a great year. i had a long list of resolutions and goals myself and I honestly can’t wait to start planting. Got some time yet before the snow melts though…guess I’ll just have to wait.

I can’t wait to start planting either, Matt. We have had so much snow…I don’t see a melt coming anytime soon.

It’s nice to have a traditional winter though. A nice freeze to keep the bugs in check. At least that’s what I keep telling myself to stay sane!
