Snow Day!

Bor-ing! That’s how my snow day is. How about you? Any other snow day-ers out there today?

Snow days always remind me of being a kid. I just want to get bundled up and head outside, build a snow fort or do some cross-country skiing…but it’s so darn windy out there I can’t hardly stand up straight.

Funny, when we were little we’d spend the entire day outside – little red-faced, frozen bundles of snowy goodness. You’re cold? No big deal, let’s build a fort are get warm! Wet snow pants? No worries, hop on your GT the wind will dry ’em (okay, not really but we were kids). Need a kleenex? Luckily the scarf your Mom made you wear is 5 ft long! We didn’t care. We were just having fun. Simple.

Now, I stand at the door looking outside thinking about the cold…and the wind. I don’t own snow pants now. I’ve got tons of 5ft long scarves so that’s not a problem (just kidding). But now I’m 5ft 9…so how big would that snow drift have to be to build a fort I can fit in? It’s just not the same. The days of throwing caution to the wintery-cold wind I fear are far behind me.

Funny how quickly life goes from simple to over thinking.

So I guess I’ll throw on the kettle, turn on Netflix and hunker down with Pinterest…oh, how times have changed!

  1. Great post! Oh, I don’t care how old you get, no one forgets snow forts, snow fights, snow men( person-lol), red faced + how cool it was to climb inside those forts. I may not be 5’9, but I know I would not be able to crawl in those tiny covered forts we made or should I say “snow holes”-lol….great memories!

  2. Robbie has a good point, we’ll never forget times like these. Some days we miss those days (like today now that all the snow has melted) and other days we just wish the snow would melt! We must remember that while we may not be able to fit into the snow forts anymore, we can still have some fun in the snow, we just have to go about it different ways. This year we organized a game of soccer outside on the night of the first snowfall! Just as much fun if not more so! Then again, Pinterest and Netflix…they’re always good too!
