5 Things…

Yes that’s right, 5 things have kept me from blogging. Buggers!

1. Crocheting.
I’ve been working on a hexagon crochet blanket…wait for it…for the past 3 years. I know, right! What a project it has turned out to be! Earlier this year, while browsing Pinterest, I found a lovely new pattern I wanted to try so I decided enough was enough and put to the task of finishing the hexagon so I could move on. Ta da, it’s finally done!

2. Outlander.
Oh Jamie, that darn accent will get a girl every time. This summer, on two separate occasions, I was introduced to the Outlander Novels. I was instantly hooked, and with season one of the television series beginning I was determined to get through the first book so I could…be on the same page so to speak(haha).

3. Jams, Jellies, Pickles and Preserves…oh and blanching.
My goodness I blanched a heck of a lot of veg this summer. Blanch, freeze, repeat. All summer long! It was wonderful. Now we’ll have home-grown veg all winter long.

And canning, oh the canning. I’ve taken a liking to making jams and jellies. One of my favourite things to do! I find it very calming. Between jams and pickled things I’ve got about 8 different products. Maybe I’ll venture into the fancy preserves business? Time will tell.

4. General house maintenance.
This summer I spent a lot of time painting. Trim. Walls. Doors. Pretty much everything has a fresh coat of paint. I’m slightly lop-sided in the muscle department now and will have to remind myself to paint with both hands to even things out haha.

5. That darn brain of mine.
Although I do feel much better I do still suffer from bouts of depression. There’s no rhyme or reason. My black dog just keeps me in the shadows some days. Sometimes it’s hard to get motivated – showering, eating, laundry, tidying and working are high priorities and the rest can wait unfortunately. I’ve turned into a bit of an introvert which I’m not overly happy about – so I’ll have to work on that.

And that’s the double truth, Ruth.
Focusing on the future, here I am and I’m going to make an immense effort to keep blogging. I do love it so!!

Hope this post finds you well,

  1. I would love to hear about all you canned and the flavors of your jams and jellies. I would love to put more up or away for the winter months but I can barely get the garden cleaned up much less even harvest! I did manage to make tomato sauces and pesto. But now that we’re migrating this year, I have been eating it all up already! I am going to make some jam one day – I have a great bread recipe it would be delicious with. I hope you aren’t feeling down. I love to be alone but since we moved to a small village I have to admit I rarely get depressed. I think it’s the closer quarters but I miss having a deeper connection with the earth. I get my fix from the garden which is growing up faster than I imagined.

    • Hey Kathy! I will totally write a post about canning. It’s so much fun! I did try my hand at salsa…peeling all the tomatoes…yuck. Not sure if I’ll make it again haha. I am feeling much better and thank you for your concern! As an only child I am usually pretty good at being alone and I do enjoy it – but on the other side of the coin I do crave being with others as well. I hope you are enjoying your new setting. Fun to plan new gardening adventures! Now that the snow is flying I’ll be focusing on house plants to keep the Mother Nature within content. :)
