For the past several months I’ve been working out-of-town. It’s roughly a 45 min drive, one way, depending on the weather. I get SOOO bored driving the same route over and over and over again. Generally, if I take one route to my destination I take a different one home…I’ve always just been like that…which drives Dan nuts! Lucky for me there are like 5 different routes I can take to get to and from work.
So in my travels, the past few months, I’ve seen some beautiful country-side! Fields of cattle, sheep, horses. Vineyards and wineries. Boutique shops and small town charm. And the stunning shores of Lake Ontario. What an amazing country we live in! (and I know that’s just the tip of the iceberg!)
I decided one morning to take my camera with me and left for work early. I figured if I took a different route each morning, when there’s day light, I’d have the chance to take some pretty cool photos. Here’s on of my favs (usually there’s a horse here but it was quite cold that morning so he wasn’t out).

Then I came across this…
When I got to work I showed a co-worker the photo and she said “Oh ya, that’s a barn quilt. They’re everywhere”. A barn quilt? I’d never heard of such a thing. Apparently they are quite popular! So popular that there’s a trail…yep, a trail! Prince Edward County has the Taste Trail, The Arts Trail and now the Barn Quilt Trail!
And I had a new adventure!!

Those are just a few, there are so many more!
They really are pretty. After doing a little research I’ve learned that the Barn Quilt Movement started down in the states over 10+ years ago. Started by a women just wanting to add some artsy-colour to her property. And the idea took off like wild-fire. Now, we up North have jumped on the band-wagon too!
Dan and I have even discussed getting one for our home.
So if you happened to be in PEC in the month of December and saw a VW driving around randomly taking pictures…I’m sorry, that was me…haha…I really am a good driver, thank you for not honking ;)
