Picture this:
You’re out for a drive taking a break from the hustle and bustle. You find yourself off your beaten path and maybe a little lost but it’s okay you probably have GPS to find your way home.
The roads feel like roller coasters with twists and turns and the hills feel like you could touch the clouds. The rolling fields from that height might be the most breathtaking sight you’ve ever seen. You can see for miles.
You meet a gentleman on a tractor and he waves; he doesn’t know you, but he waves anyways. And it’s contagious and you begin to wave at everyone you meet.
Every house you pass has a barn or a shop and people are hard at work. There are probably a few old dogs laying in the shade and a couple of kids playing in the yards.
Meadow upon meadow full of cows; you spot a calf hanging close to mama and your heart melts a little.
You pass a little old church along the way and there’s a sign out today – it’s quilting day!
Maybe the sun is setting, the yellows and reds are like nothing you’ve ever seen before. Or maybe you’ve just never really had the time to notice.
That beautiful big country sky. That fresh sweet air. The sound of the wheat blowing in the breeze. That is home.
This is the landscape of my childhood. So many fond memories; riding bikes in summer, skiing the fields in winter; just being out there – I loved it so.
I long for all those feelings and those wide-open spaces now as an adult. This post is a reminder to slow down, look around and drink it all in.
