Rescue 911: Plant Edition

For my 30th birthday, I received a beautiful gift – a three-foot monstera plant. Not that I like to admit it, but that was thirteen years ago. And for twelve years, my monstera has flourished until this past year.

I’m not sure what has changed. I’ve been watering consistently, the lightning hasn’t changed, and temperatures have stayed constant. What’s different?

It’s interesting how random things hold memories. This plant was one of the last gifts I received from a good friend before she passed, and I’d like to see it carry on for many years to come.

So begins Monstera Rescue 911!

First, I’ll have to root some cuttings as the original plant is down to two vines. The next step will be to add new soil to the pot to help freshen it up. When the cuttings are ready, I’ll plant them and secure them to the current log in the original planter (so McLean doesn’t put them out).

I’ll try something my Grandma D taught me. I’ll take a used Tetley Tea bag, open it into my watering can, and give the monstera a good drink. Something in the tea works as a fertilizer.

Then I’ll hope for the best!

Aside from the nostalgia, you may wonder why I’d put so much effort into recusing this plant. Well, the last time I was at my local garden center, a new monstera such as mine was well over $200!

Fingers crossed; my plan works! After all these years, it’s a fixture of our dining room. I would hate to see my beautiful plant kick the bucket now. Send positive vibes!

Feel free to add your two cents! Love to hear it!
