Hello and welcome!

I’m Janet, the mother hen of Willowfell, a blog dedicated to our life on our 5 acres property where we grow things and raise laying hens.

My blog is for you if you:

• Enjoy reading about the trials and errors of a girl and her garden
• Want to follow along with the joy of raising chickens
• Can relate to someone who evicted a snake living in the backyard
• Don’t mind finding calm and happiness in the little things in life.

Who am I? 

I’m a 39 and holding bookkeeping wannabe and amateur blogger. I live in Ontario, Canada, with my husband and 10-year-old daughter; 1 dog, 3 cats, 10+ chickens and 3 ducks live here too. We live a happy little life here. 

We moved here the summer of 2012 and quickly named the property Willowfell, due to the willow tree that had fallen in the yard and watching Game of Thrones, yes that’s just how we roll.   

I had no prior experience growing or canning vegetables, blogging or raising chickens – but I’m a quick learner and a bit stubborn (Sagittarius), two qualities that when used together get the job done. I’ve also never researched anything more than raising chickens!

That, in a nutshell, is what Willowfell is all about – telling tales of our shenanigans and finding joy while doing it. And if you like what you see please follow along, I invite you to join in the fun.
