Mama And The Big Angry Molt

January 7, 2024January 5, 2024 / Janet, a girl and a garden. / Leave a comment

Molting is one of the most natural things to happen in chickens; generally speaking, it occurs in the fall when the weather is just starting to turn. On our little hobby farm, this year is the exception. I was cleaning the coop on Boxing Day and noticed one of my senior gals, Mama, looking rather … Continue reading Mama And The Big Angry Molt

Gardens Ho!

April 29, 2013November 29, 2021 / Janet, a girl and a garden. / Leave a comment

By mid-July I had unpacked the majority of the house and was really starting to get the itch, and not from the poison oak, to get out and garden.  The previous owners attempted gardening at the front of the house so I figured that’s where I’d begin. Holy Overgrown Batman!

Did I mention that we purchased the house in April? After we made the deal we didn't drive passed the house much...so when we moved in in late June - this is what we found. Apparently, the previous owners weren't big on yard work.

Just a small-town girl living on love ( & song lyrics) and growing vegetables, making jams and raising chickens.

Working on slow living and just taking it all in; after all, we only get one kick at the can, right?

I spend the majority of my time spicing up our old farmhouse and trying to convince my husband to buy me a goat. Just a wee one.

Life is good.

Happy solstice! Cheers to the warm scents of a simmer pot and longer days ahead.
